My little passive income experiment site “My Project Manager Resume” has managed to get over 100 unique visits in less than 30 days.

What’s amazing is that my site is nowhere to be seen on Google.

Even more interesting is where the traffic is coming from, 60% from is coming from referral sites. This “Referral Factor” has also resulted in lifting my rankings from 0 or unranked through the 100’s, to 25 where it sits today.

So where did the referral traffic come from?

Well, articles and WEB2.0 sites mainly. I’ve gone and submitted the articles I’ve written on my site to the major articles sites and WEB 2.0 sites. This has resulted in my content getting out there quicker than I thought possible. Further to this some of the articles have been picked up and used in business and resume blogs beyond my sphere.

So it’s all good news then?

Well not quite. Based on the Google search results it seems I’ve underestimated the strength of the competition for the number 1 spot on Google. I think I’ll be stuck on page three for a while until my domain ages past a few months, I’ve read there are over 200 factors that affect a pages ranking so maybe I’ve worked out one or two.

So what’s all this mean?

It’s looking more and more like hard work does directly equal traffic. I know this because rewriting my articles and submitting them to article sites takes time and effort. All this time and effort occurs after my 9-5 job, so to me it’s hard work.

From what I can tell all this hard work does pay off and there doesn’t seem to be a way to short cut this process.

All in all, this could bring me one baby step closer to escaping the cubicle.
