I think everyone has heard enough about why I want to escape the cubicle it’s time to start getting to work on some real ideas.
The whole point of this blog is to try out ideas, share what I’m doing and let you know the results so you can either apply the same ideas and make some money or avoid it because it’s simply a crap idea.
Let’s make a start.
Ideally I want to start a series of different businesses all designed to make a small supplemental income, then focus on and ramp up the best. Each business must meet a basic set of criteria:
- Based totally online. This is so the businesses can be run from anywhere anytime
- Less than $1000 start-up budget
- Must be interesting or something I personally like doing
- Low maintenance, either dealing with customers through email or the usage of outsource options
- Can be done in conjunction with a day job
- Use COTS (consumer off the shelf) products or services. I don’t want to spend a lot of time developing software solutions if there are packaged options already available
Right, with all that in mind here is idea number one.
I have come up with an idea to create an online store to sell a niche range of tshirts that ‘I’ (slightly geeky thirty something) would want to buy. These tshirts are going to be based on a character that works in an office. All the experiences that the character has will be depicted in a series of tshirts.
I’d love to get some suggestions or comments on the name for the tshirt clothing label. Here are names I’m currently running with:
- CubicleKit
- WorkLife clothing
- Cubicle Clothing
- Coffee Break tshirts
- OfficeLife tshirts
- WorkLife Balance
- LiveToWork tshirts
Currently I’m liking Cubicle Clothing. Let me know if you think its rubbish !

The only trouble with Cubicle Clothing as a brand name is that cubicle is also a reference to a toilet cubicle, damn that English language!!
In saying that, it might not be an issue as your character’s web-stories are the ‘hook’ to create the market demand, not the name as is the case with some other brands.
Other similar online stores (eg, pure pwnage dot com – based on a pro-gamer character) use their website URL as the brand name as a) this is what is in peoples minds, b) it’s easier to remember one URL or name rather than two names, c) they get to advertise that they are part of the ‘in’ crowd that knows about a virally popular website & d) it is free advertisement for the site.
Totally agree. I think, I am going to rethink the company name and focus more on a search friendly domain name.
it is easy to get Business ideas, just look for a product or service that has demand and fill it’.;
