Here we are, day 30 of my 30 day challenge, yay!
30 days has gone so quickly. It’s hard to believe that I’ve managed to do anything consistently for 30 days. But I have. Overall I’ve learnt an enormous amount.
Back in the day (day one that is)
My original intention was to setup 10 sites, drive traffic to those sites and attempt to make $1 dollar per site per day. None of that has happened. But instead of being in shock and angry I got a first class schooling in the challenges of internet marketing.
Here’s the challenges and lessons I’ve discovered.
Challenge: Time
As previously discussed, available time for me is better than some people but still extremely limited with a day job. I tried to leverage some of the free time by outsourcing my articles, however the quality I got back was poor. This means I used most of my time to create articles and nothing else. At 30 mins per article I simply run out of time to keep across the other sites. With my current resources I can only work on one site at a time.
Lesson: It’s takes more time that I thought, there is no quick money even if people say there is!
Challenge: Too many sites
Somewhat linked to time, I foolishly thought I could setup and populate 10 sites at once. Maths aside this is all but impossible to achieve inside 30 days with only 2 hours a night.
Lesson: Focus on one thing at a time until I get the result I want then move on.
Challenge: Backlinking does not work how I thought it would
I thought ALL my backlinks would show up, and I thought they would show up a lot quicker. They didn’t, and only 10% have been found. This is somewhat disappointing in the short term, however I don’t know the effect over the longer term, 20 days is just not enough time to see effects. Some of this stuff frustratingly is not instant and I crave instant results.
Lesson: Backlinking does not create instant results and I can only realistically create 1 “discovered” backlink per day.
Challenge: Not getting testing results from this challenge
To a certain degree most of the things I wanted to test using in this challenge still remain untested. This is super annoying but completely understandable now I know the speed that things work at. I can’t test how effective my backlinking power is because it takes weeks not days to see results. I can’t test how effective keyword optimised domains are because I can only concentrate on one domain at a time. I can’t test how certain levels of competition work because I haven’t seen any effects.
Lesson: Everything needs more time.
Challenge: Making money on the internet is easy and fast
Yes, $1 a day seems small, easy and achievable, however it’s not. It’s hard, painful and lots of work that might not result in anything.
Lesson: No it’s not….
So really in summary, I’ve learnt that understanding, building, testing and seeing results all take time. The only way around this is through outsourcing and that takes a lot of money. So I need to concentrate on one site at a time, let it cook for a few weeks while I start another one, and keep this cycle going.
Where to from here?
So, I’m NOT going to stop the activity around the current test because there is still too many unanswered questions I need answers to. I probably won’t write every day on the blog however. But I will report on anything significant.
Anyway, I’ll continue to build links and track the progress of my niche site. Once it’s achieved a first page ranking position for the keyword I’ll do some deep analysis and finally I’ll be able to confirm my test results.

Well done on completing the challenge! Remember, you’re only 1 good idea away from success!
Now, about that under-utilised PS3…
Great job!
