GCE Passive Income Challenge day 24 – Quality Sites

Making a site high quality

I’ve been cracking on with creating backlinks and working on trying to improve the rank of my site in Google. While this is all going well my blog content has remained fairly static. What I need to do now is spend some time on making the blog look and feel like a high quality site.

There is a lot of talk lately about “quality sites“, and for the average web surfer it’s pretty clear what a crap site looks like, it’s one page, it’s looks cheap and oh so 90′s. Crap sites also look like the person who created the site has no idea or care about the topic. Usually a crap site is one page long, has some advertising and that’s about it. You’ll know one when you see it. Google apparently knows what a crap site looks like as well, only it thinks it can tell using an algorithm. This is interesting because quality is subjective.

What does a high quality look like?

How does a search engine know quality? I reckon they know by looking to see if you have:

  • Thin content
  • No pictures
  • Standard site layout

This means I need to fix all those things.

Creating a quality site

Tonight I’ll spend a bit of time turning my site into a high quality site by:

  • Adding a customised template to the site
  • Adding some graphics to the site
  • Adding an about page and some others pages of content
  • Adding another post

This along with formatting of text should create a compelling blog that attracts people to stick around. The effort involved is probably one night worth of work, so it’s worth doing it to create a good platform should the blog take off.

So tonight i’ll take a break from the backlinking and take some time up to setup my site and make it look quality.
