In my recent blog “My Crazy Passive Income Experiment Part 2 – The Unwrap” I wrote about what I actually got access to after I purchased a crazy passive income system. Basically I got access to the following products:
How to cure Acne
How to stop smoking
Weight Loss
Make money from Twitter
I’ll drill into the first product I decided to work on which is the “Stop Smoking” package. When I unzipped the package I found the following; a Keyword List, a Landing page, Pay Per Click (PPC) file, the actual eBook product and a Sales letter.
As expected the Keyword list is a basic spreadsheet with all the keywords people search for when finding out information about quit smoking. Not bad but nothing I couldn’t do for free, so no wow moments there.
The Landing page folder contains a mini site called a squeeze page, it’s designed to do one thing collect email and name details in exchange for a bribe. The idea behind a squeeze page is to offer something for free that’s worth more than someone’s email details. This allows you to build a targeted mailing list from the people who elect to “opt-in”. The graphics on this page looked really busy to me and what I’ve come to understand so far is that squeeze page is meant to be simple. Looks like I’m going to have to modify it.
The Pay Per Click file looks a bit more exciting. This is a spreadsheet that has suggested headlines and words I should use in a PPC campaign. Put simply, A PPC campaign is a advertising campaign that runs puts paid advertising in the corner of your Google search results.
The Product folder contains an editable version of the quit smoking eBook. I’ve read it through and in my opinion it’s not bad. However not being a smoker myself I’ll need a smoker to tell me if it’s as good as it sounds.
Finally the sales letter. If you’ve seen an internet sales type letter before you’ll know they seem to mostly follow the same format. This means red heading, a story style chunk of text and an offer for a product. This follows the format perfectly, so at this stage because I don’t know anything about marketing, I’d have to say it will do fine.
Right that’s exactly what’s in the kit for the stop smoking product but what’s it all mean, how do I turn all this into passive income?
Well, by watching the training videos I got in this system I’m led to believe that all of these pieces need to be plumbed up together. The workflow should go something like this:
- Get a domain and hosting account
- Setup the squeeze page as the front end
- Setup an Auto Responder to collect email addresses from the squeeze page
- Redirect the customers from the squeeze page onto the product sales page where I make an offer
- Setup the system to collect money *should* anyone buy the product
- Link up a thank you page where the product is available to download
- Create some PPC ads in Google to drive traffic to the site
- Sell more product from the site than it costs to get traffic
- Test everything over and over till I iron out the problems
So then, lots of work, that’s exactly what I’ve done. Actually, I’m not really sure what I’m doing here so really I’ve done the best I can. I decided to redo the squeeze page, put everything online and work on PPC advertising as a test first.
So my passive income system has so far cost me:
- Initial investment = $100
- Domain Name = $9.95
- Web hosting = $89 (per year)
- Auto Responder Service = $19 (a month)
- PPC Ad campaign = $15 (so far)
- TOTAL COST = $152.95
- TOTAL SALES = $0
- TOTAL PROFIT = $(-152.95)
If you’re interested from a curiosity point of view you can take a look at my squeeze page here @ stopping-smoking.net. If you go there let me know if there is any issues with page rendering some IE6 problems have been reported.
Anyway I’ll off to do a lot more testing to see if I can make a sale. Check back to see if anyone visits my site!
Cheers,
Justin.
